WHY CHOOSE HEALTHY FUTURES?
It is time for adolescent sexual
health programs to reflect the growing reality that many teens
are choosing not to have sex!
- More than half (55%) of Massachusetts high
school students have never had sex*
- About 65% of previously sexually active
students in MA have not had sex in the last 3 months*
- Two out of three teens interviewed in a 2003
National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy poll stated
they wish they had waited longer before having sex
Many school districts across the
country now include abstinence coursework in their health, family,
and biology curricula. This important shift has been led and supported
by both Presidents’
Clinton and Bush through grants to health programs promoting abstinence
as the healthiest choice for teens.
